This is a very interesting 1969 Gibson A-5 mandolin. It has appointments similar to Jethro Burns famous 1959 custom-made example by Gibson.


I cannot tell if this was a custom ordered instrument that was later modified or if it was first a standard A-5 that got more extensive changes. The serial number most certainly dates to 1965 and is the correct Gibson style. The finish black lights properly and consistently throughout. The finish black lights properly and consistently. The tuners match Jethro’s 1959 example, but it does look like it originally had the Klusons strip style-tuners. I would guess that the tailpiece is a replacement and the bridge does look newer. I can provide detailed photos of anything you want to look at. It is a lovely sounding and playing mandolin.
