Tone

The pickup configuration is one of the most interesting features of this Custom Deluxe Stratocaster.

The Custom ’69 neck and middle pickups deliver the clear, open and articulate single-coil character associated with classic Strat tones. The Texas Special bridge pickup adds some extra presence and authority in the bridge position.

The reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup also provides hum-cancelling operation in positions 2 and 4.

Combined with the five-way selector, this gives the guitar everything from clear neck tones and characteristic Strat “in-between” sounds to a more assertive bridge position.

Playability

The Custom Deluxe was designed as more than a period-correct vintage reissue.

Its 9.5" radius, 22 Dunlop 6105 frets and 2-point tremolo offer a more player-friendly feel compared with many vintage-spec Custom Shop models.

The ’65 C neck profile retains a familiar vintage-inspired Fender feel, while the 6105 frets make bends, vibrato and lead playing particularly comfortable.

This makes the guitar especially suitable for players who want the character of a traditional Stratocaster without being limited to strictly vintage specifications.
