Up for sale is a 1972 Suzuki No. 226 bowlback mandolin built in Nagoya, Japan.
Suzuki is best known today for its violins and educational instruments, but the company also produced a variety of mandolins during the post-war era. The No. 226 features traditional bowlback construction with a spruce top, multi-rib maple-style bowl, rosewood fingerboard, floating bridge, and classic eight-string mandolin configuration.
We recently cleaned and restrung the instrument here at the shop. It plays well and delivers the bright, articulate tone that bowlback mandolins are known for. It would make a great instrument for folk, traditional, Celtic, classical, or old-time music.
Condition is good overall for its age. There are various cosmetic scratches, dings, and signs of use throughout the instrument as shown in the photos. The finish on the back shows some wear and there is evidence of an old sticker or label having been removed. The original-style tuners show cosmetic aging but remain functional.
Includes the gig bag shown in the photos.
Please review all photos carefully and feel free to reach out with any questions.
