Another "Restoration by James" project. This beauty is a bit of a ghost. In 1983, Westone decided they would end the popular Concord line and release the new Spectrum line. Spectrum did not go live until 1985. The Matsumoku team told the Westone team to work with them on something special as a transition model for 1984. The Concord DX was developed. It only had a one year production run. The restoration journey started with a 10 day rehydration period in my humidifier room to bring life back to the fretboard. Then I crowned and polished the frets and treated the fretboard with pure mineral oil. Tested all electronics. Applied a little Deoxit to remove any oxidation. Polished the chrome bridge, neck plate and tuners with Silvo and tin foil, followed by a microfiber buff. Steam buffed the body, neck and head stock with microfiber. And much more. Also restored the original, rectangular hardshell case with the Silvo and tin foil treatment on the clasps and corner braces. Then treated the tolex (vinyl) surface with 303 Aerospace.
ORIGINAL FEATURES:
- Bendmaster FT bridge with original head mounted string lock and fine tuners. I just replaced the top three socket screws with new, stainless ones, to replace the old, oxidized screws. Plus the original trem bar.
- Legendary Magnaflux 1 UBC pickups
- Volume and tone dial. Tone has push/pull coil split
- 3 way selector
- 22 Medium jumbo frets on Rosewood fret board
- Solid Alder body with Hard Rock Maple neck
- Truss rod access at base of neck
- New, Ernie Ball Slinky 9-42 strings
- Original rectangular hard shell case with 'Westone' name and 'W' logo in gold. I did replace the cracked handle with a new, period correct, handle. The lid support strap has contracted over the years and is a little short. I was going to replace it, but I want to maintain the character of originality as much as possible
- A few minor wear marks (see pictures). A few tiny surface scratches. Small dent ear neck pocket. A few small dings on the edge, not deep enough to break the paint.
It did not have a trem cavity cover, but I will include a generic black one in the case as a couple of the holes do not line up exact
Much more to share, but I don't want to write a book. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
