The DSD-3 Digital Sampler/Delay is a rather unusual pedal that is now sought after for its vintage appeal. Released in 1986, it combines a digital delay with a basic sampler offering 200 to 800 ms of sampling time. The delay mode provides 50 to 800 ms of delay time, with Effect Level, Feedback and Time controls, while the Sampler mode allows you to record a short phrase and play it back, with a Rec/Play mode that lets you replace the sample while recording. Its Trigger In input is particularly interesting for synchronizing the sampler or delay with a drum machine or external signal. The delay sound is typical of early BOSS digital units of the era: clear and precise with a slightly grainy character, and a limited 7 kHz bandwidth on the processed signal, giving it a distinctive character compared with modern digital delays.
