Module Overview

The SSL SiX CH is a single-slot 500-series channel strip derived from SSL's desktop SiX console architecture. It packs a SuperAnalogue-style mic preamp, two-band equalizer, single-knob channel compressor, and a front-panel instrument/line input into a single 500-series slot width.

Front Panel Controls & Architecture

  • Input Stage:
    • Gain Control: Red-capped pot providing up to +63 dB of gain (+72 dB overall range across Mic/Line modes).
    • Switches: Polarity invert ($\varnothing$), +48V phantom power (with dedicated LED status light), and a 75 Hz (12 dB/octave) high-pass filter (HPF).
    • Metering: 5-segment LED signal level meter (-21, -9, 0, +12, +24 dBu).
  • EQ Section:
    • High Frequency (HF) and Low Frequency (LF) gain pots (±15 dB shelving curves by default).
    • Bell Switches: Converts HF (~3.5 kHz) and LF (~60 Hz) bands independently from shelving to bell/peaking response curves.
    • EQ IN: Hard-bypass switch for the equalizer circuit.
  • Compressor Section:
    • Threshold Control: Single-knob variable threshold control (green cap).
    • 3-LED Meter: Gain reduction indicator (Green, Yellow, Red).
    • CMP IN: Soft-knee VCA compressor bypass switch.
  • Front Panel Input:
    • Neutrik 1/4" TRS jack at the bottom with dedicated [LINE] and Hi-Z selector switches for quick front-panel direct injection (DI) of instruments or line sources without reaching behind the rack.
