The 66 Bender is the Plan-9 version of the famous 1966 Italian Tone Bender. This is an unique assembly. I used an old Plan-9 steel chassis that I used to build the first Plan-9 pedals in 2005. I found it in the stock and did everything as I used to build at that time. If you like the Plan-9 brand it is the opportunity to have one of the first Plan-9 models in brand new condition.

Description: Like the first Italian Vox Tone Bender, the Plan-9 66 Bender uses a new old stock British made Mullard OC76 germanium transistor in the position that influences most the tone. In this assembly I also use n.o.s. high-quality 3M 1970´s matched germanium transistor. I set this unity for a moderate gain and smooth fuzz tone, just like most 66 Benders I build between 2005 and 2010. It isn´t like most vintage Italian Benders, that sound very gated and harsh, but it has a smooth melodic fuzz tone, that cleans nicely with the guitar volume knob - just like the best Italian Benders that some famous musicians of the 60´s used to select among many at the stores, or asked for fuzz experts to modify. Although, there is a bias trimpot inside the pedal, so if you like like it more gated and harsh you can change the tone at your will; the original bias point is marked and can be easily reset. The pedal also has the toggle switch Bass Boost, that gives more bass, output and makes the pedal sound more like a MkI.5. I optimized the Attack (Fuzz) control, and it works gradually in the full turn of the knob. The 66 Bender also has a Pre-Gain knob that besides to cleaning the fuzz improves the interaction of the 66 Bender with a wah-wah when it is positioned before the pedal. Note that because the enclosure is new old stock, the pedal has some marks, which nevertheless adds to the vintage look.
