The Heritage Audio TUBESESSOR is a high‑end mono optical tube compressor that combines classic, natural‑sounding opto dynamics with a fully tube‑based amplification stage and transformer‑balanced input and output for rich, musical tone shaping. Designed as a modern take on vintage opto units, it offers everything from transparent, open compression to thick, harmonically saturated character thanks to its separate Tube Saturation section and flexible sidechain filtering.

Key elements of its design:

• Optical compression and tube amplification
  The TUBESESSOR uses optical gain reduction for smooth, program‑dependent compression that excels on vocals, bass, guitars, drums, and mix buses. Its amplification stage is fully tube‑based, built around premium NOS tubes (1 × NOS CK5755 and 1 × 12BH7A or equivalent dual triode), delivering an open, linear response with the option to drive it into warm, musical coloration.

• Tube Saturation section with four modes
  A dedicated Tube Saturation circuit works in tandem with the custom output transformer to generate harmonics tailored to four selectable modes: Classic, Mild, Medium/Warm, and Hot, ranging from clean to heavily saturated. This allows you to use the TUBESESSOR not just as a dynamics tool but also as a tone‑shaping device, from subtle weight on vocals to aggressive drive on drums and guitars.
• Flexible controls, ratios, and sidechain filters
  Standard compressor controls include Threshold (from about +10 to -40 dB), Ratio from 2:1 up to 10:1, and Gain from around -10 to +30 dB of makeup gain, giving a range from gentle leveling to light limiting. Attack and Release are continuously adjustable with the option of Fixed, Manual, or a combination mode, providing both classic opto behaviour and more tightly controlled responses when needed.
• Advanced sidechain filter section
  The unit features five internal sidechain filter settings to keep low‑end from over‑triggering compression or to focus action on specific frequency areas. These include high‑pass filters at 80 Hz and 160 Hz, a high‑pass at 5 kHz, and mid‑focused band options around 1 kHz and 3 kHz (described in some documentation as peak/bandpass modes), enabling more controlled vocal compression, de‑essing‑like effects, or groove‑enhancing drum processing.

Metering, linking, and build
A large, custom VU meter can be switched to display Input level, Output level, or Gain Reduction, making it easy to monitor how much compression and makeup gain you are applying. A link jack allows two TUBESESSOR units to be stereo‑linked for bus or mix processing, and the 3U 19" rack chassis (482 × 134 × 153 mm, approx. 3.6 kg) is built to mil‑spec standards with custom AMI‑style input and high‑headroom output transformers for long‑term reliability in professional studios.
