For sale: Fender Stratocaster XII – a Japanese-made 12-string Strat from 1996, finished in classic 3-Tone Sunburst.
This is an export-market model from the Contemporary Series (1994–1996), additionally marked with the 50th Anniversary 1946–1996 badge on the back of the headstock. These guitars appear extremely rarely on the market—especially in this condition.
This isn’t a “novelty wall piece”. It’s a fully playable, comfortable Stratocaster that just happens to unleash a dense, shimmering 12-string sound with every chord. Thanks to the full 25.5" scale, normal fret spacing and a very friendly neck profile, transitioning from a standard Strat is completely natural.

Condition
The guitar is in very good condition for its age. The finish shows minor cosmetic marks here and there, but nothing that detracts from appearance — it presents as a clean, well-kept 1996 instrument.
The neck is straight, truss rod works perfectly, and frets are extremely clean with no visible playwear.
Electronics are fully functional — no crackle, all switches work securely, and the guitar responds evenly to dynamics.
Tonally, this is exactly what a 12-string Strat should be: tight low end, clear top end, and that unmistakable chime in the mids. Thanks to the hardtail bridge and individual saddles, tuning stability and intonation are excellent — which is absolutely crucial on a 12-string.
This model is highly attractive both for collectors of Japanese Fenders (short production run, 50th Anniversary badge) and for players who want a genuinely usable, well-built 12-string that isn’t just for show.
