For Steve Vai fans, the JEM7VWH needs very little introduction.

This is the guitar most closely associated with “Evo” – the white JEM that became inseparable from Vai’s sound, image and performances. The monkey grip, Lion’s Claw tremolo cavity, Tree of Life inlay and white-and-gold finish have become some of the most recognisable details in modern guitar history.

This particular example comes from 2019, the final production year of the Japanese-built JEM7VWH. After more than two decades as one of Ibanez’s flagship signature instruments, the original Fujigen-made model was discontinued, making this one of the newest and latest examples of the classic Japanese JEM7VWH available.

For a collector or lifelong Vai fan looking for the final evolution of the original Japanese model, this is about as late as they come.

There is something genuinely special about opening the case on one of these. The white finish, gold hardware, pearloid guard and flowing Tree of Life inlay are instantly familiar, but the guitar is far more than a display piece. The neck is fast and precise, the original Edge tremolo is superb, and the DiMarzio Evolution pickups have the clarity, aggression and harmonic response that helped define the classic Vai sound.

It is a guitar built for enormous bends, vocal sustain, fluid legato, controlled feedback and every other piece of glorious excess that made so many of us want a JEM in the first place.

Condition

The guitar is in exceptional condition and has clearly been cherished.

The body and neck present beautifully. I cannot find any notable scratches, dents, chips, neck-pocket cracks or other damage. The white finish remains remarkably clean, the Tree of Life inlay is stunning and the guitar has clearly spent its life being handled with considerable care.

The only visible age-related wear is mild tarnishing and fading to areas of the original gold-plated tremolo and hardware. This is extremely common on gold-hardware Ibanez guitars and is entirely cosmetic.

This is not a heavily toured, modified or neglected example. It is a beautiful, original late-production Japanese JEM that looks every bit as special as it should.
