I've owned three of the Zendrive variants, and the Black Magik ended up being the last Zendrive standing. There's an extra gain stage that's just a little hump over the other units, but the difference is noticeable enough, and, when you juice this guy with a Tube Screamer or mild OD pedal, you get this rich, creamy overdrive with sustain for days. I've never played through a Dumble, but I definitely know the Ford tone, and it's here, as well as some surprisingly accurate SRV/Mayer base tones (you need to sculpt them with some stacking of other pedals, preferably ones with more mid-humps for SRV). But the REAL surprise here is how one can absolutely nail the lush, almost cello-like lead sounds of David Gilmour by pairing it up with a RAT style pedal. You get the grit and high end of the RAT paired with the singing sustain and creaminess of the Zendrive and it really takes you into that Ram's Head territory. It's great alone, and phenomenal when stacked (and seems to get along with every OD I've thrown at it!). Just a great pedal that can be had for a ludicrously low price if you shop around.
