G&L ASAT Classic Tribute Electric Guitar Telecaster - given a new lease of life
Have built a few telecasters this year and this one is one of my favourites. I've had the G&L neck in my parts store for a few years, and it was just in such good condition I had to give it a new lease of life. 22 amazing frets have hardly been played and the quality of the wood and build makes for a perfectly comfortable neck.
The serial number 03061616 suggest a June 2003 neck which was the first year that the company started to import these into the US from South Korea. These early guitars are a different class from the later models produced in Indonesia and China and often considered on par with the US models. From the quality of this neck, I would 100% agree.
I bought a new solid Alder telecaster body 4 years ago in white nitro cellulose satin, and it was left on my workbench in front of a window in my old workshop for too long and a wonderful accident happened............the white has faded to a cream very naturally. It actually looks like it should be on a neck that's 23 years old - lol. Superb light, really nice body.
All hardware is gold. Tuners are the original Wilkinson 2 pin as fitted to these necks. They work smoothly and have a lovely ahed look as the gold has worn. The bridge is a brand new Wilkinson 6 saddle individual string compensation model.
Pickups are brand new and Tonerider Alnico 2 Blues and sound killer. According to the tonerider web site these were developed to give blues and jazz players warm, rich trebles and superb sustain, whilst still maintaining enough tele-twang on the bridge pickup to keep up with country licks.
The Alnico rod pole pieces on the bridge pickup incorporate Tonerider's modified stagger, with a higher third and fourth string polepieces to optimise string-string balance. Each pickup is fully wax potted to reduce any microphonic feedback.
The guitar is finished off with a mint green scratchplate and some muddy water inspired knobs.
Playability is spot on, neck is 100% aligned correctly and the guitar has a nice light weight and superb sustain.
Any questions please ask.
Given that G&L folded in 2025, these
are a future classic and bound to increase in value over the next few years.
I have been working on guitars for +35 years now and buying and selling on eBay since the beginning of eBay. This is not my profession, but I have sold over a thousand guitars over the years, and never had a bad trade. If anything, my descriptions are overly honest so please look at the pictures, ask questions in advance and if you need other photos let me know. If you buy one of my guitars it will be set up properly and playing to the best of its ability. If you checked out my Instagram, you’ll see a picture of my workshop which is my happy place. I’m not really interested in trade ins as I have far too many guitars but might be interested in parts for pre-1990 Fenders, or 60’s parts for Burns, Watkins or Hofner solid body guitars.
