The year 1952 saw the birth of the Gibson Les Paul Gold Top with two P-90 pickups, which has since become a legend. Initially equipped with an uncomfortable trapezoidal tailpiece, the GoldTop was given a "wraparound" bridge in 1953 until the adjustable ABR-1 bridge finally came in 1956. This bridge concept, which has proven itself to this day, guarantees exact intonation and also ensures fast attack and plenty of sustain on the GoldTop.
So it was only natural that the Gibson Custom Shop took on this 1956 guitar icon and also gave the reissue a unique Murphy Lab "Ultra Light" Aging. The Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged finish treatment, paired with lightly aged hardware, simulates decades of light play wear, giving it the unique character, vibe, and feel of an original example from the Gibson Golden Era. This 1956 Reissue GoldTop features a lightweight mahogany body with maple top and wraparound binding, a strong "Chunky C-Shape" mahogany neck, and an Indian rosewood fingerboard with trapeze inlays. At only 3788 grams, it is a pleasant lightweight. The two Custom Soapbar P-90 pickups are made for Blues and Classic Rock. Sometimes rough, aggressive and angry sounding, but also extremely brilliant and harmonious in clean mode. "Best of both worlds" so to say. And the built-in "Paper in Oil" capacitors are some of the best electronics you can give a guitar. This Gibson Custom Shop 1956 Reissue captures the look, feel, and characteristic sound of an original 1956 Les Paul Goldtop down to the smallest detail, while coming close to the best originals of the time.
