1969 Yamaha FG-300 — Red Label, Nippon Gakki (Made in Japan) — Excellent, All-Original — Local Pickup Only

For sale is a 1969 Yamaha FG-300, the Red Label Nippon Gakki dreadnought that's become one of the most sought-after Japanese-made acoustics of its era. This is the genuine article — built at Yamaha's Hamamatsu factory before production shifted overseas, with the label still bright and legible inside the soundhole.

The FG-300 was the flagship guitar for Yamaha in the late sixties and early seventies. It was one of the original "red label" six-string jumbo acoustics built in Japan starting in 1969, and includes a hand-decorated pickguard with a floral and hummingbird motif.

Condition: Excellent, all original, no repairs. This is in superb condition for its age -- no cracks or top repairs. The finish, frets, and bracing are all in excellent shape for a guitar approaching 60 years old.

Specs (per Yamaha/period documentation):

  • Body Style: Dreadnought/Jumbo
  • Top: Select Spruce
  • Back & Sides: Rosewood
  • Fingerboard & Bridge: Rosewood
  • Pickguard: Three-point, hand-decorated floral/hummingbird design
  • Label: Red "Yamaha Guitar FG-300, Nippon Gakki" label, visible through the soundhole
  • Era: 1968–1976 production run; this example dates to 1969

The case: Comes with the original Yamaha hardshell case. It's the genuine vintage case, but it shows its age — wear, scuffing, and general cosmetic deterioration consistent with 55+ years of use.

Local pickup only — no shipping. Philadelphia, PA area. Serious offers welcome.
