The Sitka spruce top combined with cherry wood back and sides produces a relatively bright tonal character, leaning more toward mahogany than rosewood. Cherry is a stunning tonewood that we have been seeing more frequently in high-end guitars in recent years. One of its greatest visual qualities is the dramatic figuring on the back, which changes in color and appearance depending on the light.
The neck is made from mahogany and is fitted with an ebony fingerboard. All hardware is, as expected from Martin, of the very highest quality.

Cherry Hill is a real place, located close to the factory where Martin is still based today. When Chris Martin moved from busy New York to the quiet town of Nazareth, he was not immediately welcomed. In the mid-19th century, the village was home entirely to Moravian Christians, and people of other religious backgrounds were not accepted.
Chris Martin persevered, but before he was allowed to live in the village, he built a house on a small nearby hill covered with cherry trees—Cherry Hill. This first step toward establishing Martin in Nazareth, which would later grow into one of the world’s most important guitar makers, is honored with this strikingly beautiful instrument.
