Up for sale, a 1983 Marshall JCM800 model 2203 “Mk II Master Model 100” tube amp head and matching 1960A and 1960B 4x12” cabinets, featuring rare original white tolex and freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar.
An early example of the vertical input JCM800 2203 model, the JCM800s were among the first Marshalls to feature the pre-phase inverter Master Volume circuit. This JCM800 allows the preamp to saturate and deliver searing crunch at slightly more club-friendly volumes. Of course, the amp really excels when dialing up both the preamp gain and master volume for a thick crunch, dynamic and textured for a monstrous wall of sound.
The circuit is clean and stock, with the original Dagnall power/output transformers and the Drake choke. The filter caps have all been upgraded with modern equivalents to ensure optimal functionality and reliability. The original inspection sticker is present on the chassis, dated to May 24, 1983, while the R-suffix serial number dates to 1983. The amp features a fresh quartet of Groove Tubes GT-E34LS (6CA7) power tubes, with a trio of 12AX7s and ECC83 preamp valves (also Groove Tubes).
The cabinets are loaded with five vintage Celestions, all presumably original given the date on the inspection sticker, with a combination of G12-65s (dating to 1981) and G12-70s (dating to 1984). These vintage Celestions are paired with three replacement Celestion Vintage Series G12H 70th Anniversary Special Edition speakers (dating to 2001).
The original white tolex and black grillcloth have wear as shown, with original gold piping, plastic corners, casters, and handles.
