Marshall JCM 800 2204 – Master Model 50W Mk II Lead (1981)

Rare early production • 100% original • freshly serviced • personal one-owner history

I’m selling my Marshall JCM 800 2204 (50W) from early 1981, one of the rarer and most sought-after early production runs of this series.

The handwritten Marshall QC sticker dated 24/06/81 confirms the early build date. These first-run 2204s are known for being especially direct, dynamic and raw in feel – sonically closer to the late JMP era than to many of the later JCM 800s.

The amp is 100% original, completely unmodded, and in exceptionally clean condition inside.

Professional service – October 2025 (invoice included)

The amp received a full professional service in October 2025 by Erhan Mann – Service für Musiker (Frankfurt, Germany):

  • new EL34 & ECC83 tubes (SFM selected)
  • bias set & burn-in
  • measurements in the power supply and power amp section
  • cleaning of all contacts, pots and tube sockets
  • extended load test / stress test under real playing conditions

Result: rock solid, stage-ready, and absolutely reliable

Originality (rare combination)

  • untouched ST1 board (ISS 202)
  • original Drake / Dagnall transformers
  • handwritten QC sticker “24/06/81” inside
  • vertical inputs
  • completely unmodified circuit
  • extremely clean internal layout

The amp spent roughly 20 years safely stored and unplayed, which is why the internal condition is so unusually well preserved.

Personal history

I found this amp in 1998 together with my father in Milwaukee (USA), when I was a teenager.
It went through the legendary “Rock’n’Roll Hospital” amp clinic there, was checked, repaired and then became my main amp from 1999 onwards – through youth, rehearsal rooms, bedroom playing and first gigs.

Since around 2005 it was no longer used and stayed in storage until I had it fully serviced in 2025. This is not a desperate quick sale, but the passing on of a special early-run JCM 800 that has been with me for most of my life.

Condition

  • technically perfect, fully serviced
  • internally exceptionally clean
  • no modifications, no extra holes, no DIY repairs
  • cosmetically very clean for a 1981 unit; only small traces of use on the Tolex, as photographed, nothing that affects structure or performance

VAT not included / no VAT to reclaim (private sale)!

Play-test & inspection

The amp can be tested and inspected in peace by appointment.
I’m happy to take the time. It’s important to me that the future owner really understands what makes this early, original 1981 example special.

Location: Germany (Frankfurt am Main area).

Shipping / Pickup

Worldwide insured shipping available. Local pickup is also possible and preferred.

For shipping the amp will be packed extremely securely, double-boxed, with rigid foam panels, proper internal bracing, edge protection, and full insurance. I can also provide photos of the packing process upon request.

Please feel free to message me for an exact shipping quote to your location. I always try to find the safest and most cost-effective option.
