Lowden WL-50 Madagascar Rosewood - Sinker Redwood (2018)

This Wee Lowden WL50 is the little cannon that could! A shorter 610mm scale guitar, built with a mastergrade Sinker Redwood top and gorgeous Madagascar Rosewood for back and sides.

This 2018 Wee Lowden WL50 truly packs a punch thanks to its internal bracing that sets the guitar up for maximum bass response, sweet mid-tones and crystal clear high notes. Yes, the volume is lower, but the dynamics are not, and she still fills the room! Madagascar Rosewood and Sinker Redwood work extremely well together, giving this small body size an awesome sound with lots of overtones and great sustain. She is a very comfortably to hold and easy to play. Adding an LR Baggs Anthem of HiFi for example and hooking her up to an amp will mean that you can perform anywhere with this one.  Some wear on the neck (now gloss), minor scratches and some buckle rash. Some fret wear but nothing to worry about. Overall her condition is very good.

The beginning of the Wee Lowden story took place when Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody contacted George and asked if they could make a small-bodied guitar as a present for Ed Sheeran. Having had the idea of making something in that vein to add to the range for a while anyway, the request kick-started the process that has led to the release of the Wee Lowden. It wasn’t just a question of shrinking an established model in the range; on the contrary. It was a painstaking process which saw George Lowden lock himself away at a retreat on the Irish coast. Four days on a row he drew designs for the body shape and pondered over the bracing, woods, bridge position and many of the other variables before building the first prototypes. The final result is not only one of Ed Sheeran’s favorite songwriting guitars.
