Vari-mu compressor and tube EQ in single 3U rack custom

This heavy thing full of vintage transformers will not be shipped. I trust no carriers around.

You are not invited to try it at my home by default because I have no time to entertain you.

Custom build using vintage transformers to make sure every version of my PCB works. The price is symbolic, as I want to reinvest in building another idea.

This is a two-piece gear.

One part is a tube EQ interfacing a 5kOhm:5kOhm input transformer (Iskra TL-1M) and a 10kOhm:500Ohm output transformer (Chicago Transformer, -6dB 500:600 Ohm H-padded). Tons of gain. Tubes to be used in EQ: 6SL7, 6SJ7. Selling together with NOS tubes.

Tube EQ was built using a known old schematic and has controls:

• LOW
• LOW Q
• MID LOW
• LESS / MORE
• MID HI
• HI Q
• HI

The other part is a Vari-Mu tube compressor interfacing a 20kOhm:600Ohm input transformer (Chicago Transformer) and a 10kOhm:500Ohm output transformer (Chicago Transformer, -14dB 500:600 Ohm H-padded). The input likes to be driven, the output has a lot of gain. Tubes to be used in the compressor: 6BZ7, 12AT7, 6AL5. Selling together with NOS tubes. I will give you calibration instructions - useful in case you want to replace tubes.

The compressor is based on the Altec 436C, RS124, VK1 topology and has controls:

• INPUT
• ATTACK
• RELEASE
• THRESHOLD
• HOLD (release mod from RS124)

Vintage-y VU meter says to stay within a certain area while compressing audio (black area in the middle) - look at the pictures and video test.

Chicago Transformer refers to Chicago Standard Transformer Corporation, later known as Stancor.
