The Sontec DRC-400 is the earliest example of discrete gain reduction units based in the research of Burgess McNeal. The Sontec DRC 400 is a classic, legendary and versatile dynamic processor. It is a VCA Compressor/Limiter, with two channels and a Stereo Link feature. Featuring discrete Sontec HS1100 discrete amplifier blocks, it has adjustable dynamic detection features configurable in the “Crest Factor" parameter (RMS/Peak). These units were painstakingly restored, calibrated and optimized for a period of (1) year to assure trouble free operation for years to come. It was completely recapped by all electrolytic capacitors in both the power supply and audio path, with high quality audio grade capacitors in addition to their respective alignment and calibration in each channel. This equipment has its original and famous discrete OP AMPS designed by Sontec, which provides the sound with its transparent dynamic process that has characterized them and praised them by renowned engineers and music producers over time. Often compared to the GML 8900 dynamic range controller, these units share the same lineage as the MES-487 Eight Band Parametric EQ. The Sontec DRC-400 Dynamic Range Controller (limiter/compressor) was designed to accommodate both program and preview channels of the disk mastering systems. In this unit, 2 of the channels have been currently refurbished and are functional. This unit has a DRC-200 front plate.
