Slingerland 60s Sparkling Silver Pearl Drum Kit

22x14" Bass Drum

12x8" Tom

16x16" Floor Tom

Technical Innovations: Introduction of the "Stick Saver" hoops (inward-curved to protect drumsticks) and the "Beaver Tail" lugs. In 1968, the Set-O-Matic tom mounting system was introduced, offering significantly more stability than earlier rail mounts.

In 1966, Slingerland was in what is known as the "Niles era". The shell construction from this period is legendary for its warm, woody, and highly resonant sound.

Key Features of 1966

  • Bearing Edges: The edges where the drumhead sits were heavily rounded (“baseball bat edges”). This created maximum contact between the head and the wood, producing the characteristic warm vintage tone with less sustain but strong punch.
  • Interior Finish: Around 1966, Slingerland began painting the inside of the shells in a light beige color, often referred to by collectors as the “chocolate milk” finish. This was not to conceal poor wood quality, but a standard factory finish from the Niles plant.
