The Maxx MR-70 Metal Rocker is a vintage distortion pedal designed for high-gain rock and metal guitar sounds. Part of a family of closely related MR-70 pedals that appeared under several brand names, the Maxx version offers a straightforward approach to heavier distortion with extensive control over the pedal’s tonal balance.
The MR-70 features four controls: Level, Color Mix L, Color Mix H and Dist. Level sets the overall output volume, while Dist adjusts the amount of distortion. The separate Color Mix L and Color Mix H controls provide independent adjustment of the lower and higher frequency ranges, allowing the sound to be shaped from thicker, heavier distortion to a sharper and more cutting character.
With its high-gain distortion and flexible two-band tonal shaping, the Metal Rocker is particularly suited to distorted rhythm guitar, hard rock and metal tones. Its vintage compact-pedal design and unusual dual Color Mix controls also make the MR-70 an interesting alternative to more familiar distortion pedals from the same era.
