I am offering an exceptionally rare 2024 Tokai LC210S/JS-CM BB, manufactured in Japan as a limited Custom Order model in the special JS Black specification.
The guitar is stylistically inspired by the famous black Les Paul Custom associated with John Sykes. It is not presented as an official artist signature model, but as a specially commissioned Tokai version distinguished by its deep black finish, chrome hardware and large mirrored pickguard.
The appearance is completed by multi-ply binding around the front and rear of the body and the headstock, single-ply fingerboard binding and traditional pearl block inlays. The result is an elegant but unmistakably hard-rock-oriented interpretation of the classic Custom design.
The exact model designation LC210S/JS-CM BB and serial number 2450312 are shown on the original identification card included with the instrument.
The guitar was built in Japan to Tokai’s high manufacturing standards. Its construction consists of a maple top, a two-piece mahogany back and a one-piece mahogany set neck. This substantial Custom-style construction produces a full and focused sound with a strong midrange, controlled low frequencies and excellent sustain.
One of the most important features of this Custom Order version is the use of traditional animal-based nikawa hide glue in key structural joints. According to the model specification, hide glue was used for the body construction, the fingerboard-to-neck joint and the neck joint.
This traditional and more labour-intensive method is generally associated with higher-grade instruments and is valued for creating a rigid mechanical connection between the individual wooden components.
The one-piece mahogany neck features a traditional 18-degree headstock angle. The rosewood fingerboard has a 300 mm radius, 22 Tokai #213 frets and a bone nut measuring 43 mm in width. The scale length is 625 mm.
The guitar is equipped with two original Tokai PAF-Vintage humbuckers:
- Tokai PAF-Vintage MK2S-N neck pickup
- Tokai PAF-Vintage MK2S-B bridge pickup
The exact pickup designations were confirmed from the markings on the underside of both units.
These passive humbuckers are inspired by traditional PAF-style pickups. They provide moderate output, excellent dynamics, clear high frequencies and relatively low compression, allowing the natural acoustic character of the guitar to remain present.
The neck pickup delivers a full, warm and smooth tone suitable for lead playing, blues and clean sounds. The bridge pickup provides a firmer attack, pronounced midrange and good definition when used with overdrive or high-gain amplification.
The traditional control layout consists of:
- 2 Volume controls
- 2 Tone controls
- Three-way pickup selector
The guitar is equipped with a Tokai LS-VB bridge, Tokai LS-VT tailpiece and a Switchcraft output jack. Its chrome hardware and mirrored pickguard create the characteristic JS Black appearance while retaining the elegance of a traditional Custom-style instrument.
