Established in 1993, G-string ukuleles are currently handcrafted on the Big Island of Hawaii by Derek Shimizu. Their popularity has grown rapidly due to strong support from artists, and they are now a leading Hawaiian ukulele brand, loved by professionals and a wide range of musicians. This particular instrument is a used 2003 soprano long-neck model with a laser-etched hibiscus design. It features a Hawaiian koa body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, Grover tuners, and abalone fingerboard dot inlays. At the time, they were manufactured by a team in a workshop in Oahu, offering a wide range of affordable options. They quickly gained popularity and were even considered one of the top three Hawaiian ukulele brands.
