The TASCAM DX-8DS is a 16-channel professional noise reduction unit, manufactured under dbx license, designed as a companion to the TASCAM MS-16 and ATR-60 series multitrack recorders. It is in very good cosmetic condition, presents cleanly, and comes with the original proprietary interconnect cable.

Very good cosmetic condition — front panel clean with minimal wear, rear panel shows normal studio patina. All 16 channel bypass switches present and functional in appearance. Includes original interconnect cable with large multi-pin connector. Made in Japan by TEAC Corporation under dbx license.

About the DX-8DS

TASCAM's DX series implemented dbx Type I noise reduction, the professional-grade variant of the dbx encode/decode system. Type I operates at a 2:1 compression/expansion ratio across the full audio bandwidth, delivering substantial noise floor reduction while maintaining a relatively wide dynamic range on tape. Unlike the more consumer-oriented dbx Type II found in cassette applications, Type I was developed for professional studio use and is calibrated to match the operating levels and headroom characteristics of professional multitrack recorders.

The DX-8DS handles 16 channels simultaneously, with per-channel bypass switching allowing individual tracks to be taken in or out of the noise reduction chain as needed. Channel status is monitored via front-panel LEDs grouped into CH 1-8 and CH 9-16 banks. The unit is rack-mountable and connects to the host machine via the included proprietary cable.
