This is our newest push-to-talk unit. Unlike most of our past models, this one is fortified with an all steel enclosure. The weight of the device along with the rubber feet ensures that it won’t slide all over your desktop when using it.
Another cool new feature is that unlike most past models that were equipped with a push button switch that only illuminated when pressed (or just stayed on all the time), this one illuminates at about 15% when the device power is switched on and then fully illuminates when pressed. The device power switch is a discreet black push button switch that is located above the power input jack on the rear panel between the two XLR ports.
Compatible with both dynamic and condenser microphones. The device will pass phantom power (if present) to your condenser mic but it cannot provide it itself.
This model comes with a 12V power adapter. The power adapter must be connected in order for there to be illumination. If the power cord is not attached the device will still function, there just won’t be any illumination in the push button. We try to hit the sweet spot as far as brightness is concerned, but if you find that the illumination is too bright, you can always use a lower powered adapter to reduce the brightness. Power adapters as low as 5V are supported. USB power will also work if you have the necessary adapter cable (we may have an extra if you need one, let us know). Power adapters less than 5V may still work, but the result will most likely be underwhelming.
Note: it was particularly difficult to accurately capture what the illumination actually looks like in the product photos for this one. Just know that it looks way better in person (even light, appropriate brightness). If anyone has any tips on photographing LED illuminated push buttons, please let me know!
Approx. Dimensions: 4 1/8” L x 3 1/4” W x 2 18” (high side) or 1 9/16” (low side)
Weight: 13.3 oz
Please note that this device features a momentary “talk” push-button switch. Your microphone will be unmuted only for as long as you or someone you have enslaved is holding the button down. If you need a latching switch, we have a separate listing for that. There will also be a version available soon that has BOTH functions!
Note: This model is identical to our other momentary ‘Push to Talk‘ device with the exception of the bulb used to illuminate the push button. This model uses an LED, as opposed to our other one which uses a traditional incandescent bulb. I tend to prefer the warm glow of an incandescent, but if low maintenance is a priority, you might prefer the LED since you will rarely (if ever) need to replace it. It also won’t get hot after prolonged usage the way an incandescent can.

(Long-winded rant about push button switch quality and why it matters):
I have spent countless hours researching and testing Illuminated push button switches over the past nine years or so, and have narrowed it down to a very specific few makes and models that I consider to be of superior quality, and those are the only ones I use for this new model. After all, the whole point of these devices is to create a convenient and more enjoyable way to control a microphone used for communications.
Push button quality is especially important for those who heavily use (or intend to heavily use) their push-to-talk device. A cheap push button switch will often have too much resistance and can quickly become laborious to operate. They also often make annoying mechanical sounds and typically are just plain unpleasant to use. Then there are the cheap push button switches that don’t have enough resistance and not only feel flimsy but can also be easy to inadvertently activate. And, of course, cheap push button switches tend to have much shorter lifespans. All of the ones we use are rated for at least 200,000 cycles. If you would like information regarding which specific switches we use, please get in touch (we have learned that not all switch manufacturers appreciate device builders shouting out their brands in product descriptions).
