FUNCTIONAL CONDITION: Good
PHYSICAL CONDITION: Good
BRAND: G&L
MODEL: F-100 Series II
YEAR: 1980
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Very cool Vintage G&L F-100 Series II. This guitar has some great mojo to it. It’s had some modifications to it, but sounds great. The neck has a smooth feel, yet the jumbo frets have some depth to work within. Not normally a jumbo fret guy, but this guitar contradicts that for me.
Functionally, the guitar is in very good condition. The pickups in the pictures have been professionally swapped out for Golden Age P90s. Some of the wiring was a goner too, so some of that has been professionally replaced. The pickups have the same black covers, so they look almost identical, but are indeed different. I still have the ones pictured, though and will include them as well. The pickups in this guitar originally were not the original pickups.
Setup, pickups, wiring and inspection done professionally by the guys over at Driftwood Guitars. They’re great luthiers! If you aren’t familiar with them, check them out on Youtube.
I also do not have the vibrato arm, but am actively looking for a replacement setup. Reached out to G&L, just waiting for a response back. Will update the listing if I get one.
The pickup selector is also pretty worn out. I don’t really hear any issues with it now when the guitar’s plugged in, but it will likely need replaced one day (I may have it done if I feel inclined, will update listing if so).
Driftwood guys said the truss rod is good, had no issues
The hardshell case included has seen better days. The latches are all either missing or barely hold. Will ship in the case for protection, but I wouldn’t expect much from it without repairing it.
Cosmetically, the body has been refinished to a really nice looking pearly white finish (refin. apparent if you look at the screw holes on the back of the body). There’s minimal scratching on the body, or if there is, it’s really hard to see on the finish. The frets are in great condition. On the back of the neck, you can see where the tuners have been replaced with Schaller ones (I’m guessing they’re M6 Fender-Style standard ones, but not 100% sure). Stays in tune great though.
OVERALL CONDITION RATING: 6/10, maybe 7/10 considering it’s a 45 year old guitar…
Please reach out with any questions, concerns, etc. as I am here to help in any way that I can.
