Dean Pace 4-String Electric Upright Bass – Portable Double Bass Experience

For sale: my Dean Pace 4-String Electric Upright Bass. This instrument offers the familiar playing position and feel of an upright bass, but in a much more portable package than an acoustic 3/4 double bass.

Specifications:

4 strings, fretless with position markers on the side of the neck

Solid maple neck (neck-through construction)

35" scale length, maple fingerboard with a traditional 6" radius

Piezo bridge pickup with onboard buffer preamp – you can plug directly into a standard bass amp

Includes sturdy, collapsible tripod stand

Strings relatively new (4 months old, Thomastik Infeld flatwounds)

Why this bass:

Ideal for bassists who want the upright sound and playing experience without hauling around a large acoustic instrument. The familiar 35" scale length makes the transition from electric bass to upright very natural. Perfect for jazz, rockabilly, or just for a change of pace. Please note: this is an electric upright; it sounds somewhere between a fretless electric bass and a double bass, and is not intended to be played with a bow.

Condition: as good as new. Always handled with care, fingerboard oiled at string changes, instrument kept in a room where temperature and humidity are monitored. Volume control, pickups, and tuning machines are all in excellent condition. Neck is straight. The instrument is well set up and easy to play.

Included: original stand and gigbag. The gigbag offers solid protection while being lightweight. Also suitable for transport by bicycle or on public transport.

Price: €400. Pickup in Rijswijk, the Netherlands, trying it out: of course possible and recommended. Or shipping.

I have played this instrument with pleasure for a number of years. I am now switching to a five-string upright bass, which is why this one may go to a new owner.
