Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.
You are looking at a very unique 1st generation 1940's era American D4T model dynamic microphone made in the U.S.A. that comes with the older cable adapters shown in which to operate this D4T. More on that in a moment. This particular model did not come with the center name badge often associated with the later D4T's as the earlier model came with nothing more than an American decal located on the bottom half of the microphone which generally rub off from age and use. This example has lost most of it's American decal due to that.
This was called a "salt shaker" due to it's obvious design. It could be handheld or screwed onto any desk or floor stand you have.
This mic is in very nice condition for it's age and the best part is that it still works at 100% signal strength. I find that the majority of the D4T model mics still out there no longer work or don't work well so this is a good score despite the lite wear. A very strong signal and will do any general broadcaster or harp player justice.
If you like the look and tone of the Altec 633A or 632C then you are really going to like The American D4T.
This particular American model mic was used at just about every event by Bob Hope during his performance shows in Korea during the war with the U.S.O as seen in pic # 2 and happens to make an outstanding harp mic today though it was primarily used as a rugged "general purpose" mic being used for broadcasting, paging and other communication purposes when it was sold originally.
Pic # 3 shows this very model in a 1940's era American catalog along with it's basic characteristics. This lite weight mic is the size of a very large egg and is quite easy to hold and cup for prolonged periods of time.
These high impedance setting D4T mics have a very rockabilly tone being void of bass. If this is the sound you desire then this mic will do you justice. It's omni-directional picking up more background noise. A great vocal mic for any blues, jazz or other old school sound that is harder to replicate with newer mics today. The D4 was identical to the D4T except that the D4 was set at low impedance as where the D4T was a high impedance mic.
Again, the microphone has been tested and a perfect working dynamic element having all original components. The joint mechanism holds strong and allows for a smooth rotation to any degree needed. Mic is solid with zero loose parts or rattling. The satin chrome housing has a nice luster and free of fractures, deep scratches or engravings but does have lite scratches and pitting here and there. The center black painted section has very lite wear. The mic fits in your palm easily. A very good example of an early model American D4T microphone. I would give it a solid 7 + on a cosmetic scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate higher. You'll be hard pressed to find one as nice. These mics are generally much rougher in appearance.
The mic comes with the quality Amphenol 75-MC1S-385 model on / off adapter that allows you to turn on the mic by depressing a lever. Go live only when you want to by pushing it into the mechanism or slide the lever downward locking it into place for hands free live mode. It's a very practical adapter that was original sold by Amphenol in the late 1930 and can be seen in an older Amphenol catalog in pic # 4.
Last but not least is the beautiful 1970's era Switchcraft 339A cable adapter. This all metal adapter with satin chrome finish can screw right onto the D4T but in this case it's screwed onto the Amphenol 75-MC1S-385 and this allows you to attach any standard XLR cable you have making it a very practical set up. Much better than the stock cable the D4T came with. You'll never have to worry about misplacing the older cable.
This is a very nice package deal.
This D4T will screw onto any desk or floor stand that you have. If you demand a very nice D4T then this will certainly work well for your needs.
