There are a few BE-100s floating around for sale right now. If you just want one, buy any of them. If you want a special one, keep reading.

Going by the serial number, this is almost certainly an early BE-100 from 2013. What makes it interesting is what happened to it afterwards: Dave Friedman himself got his hands on it and added a pile of the good stuff. The S gain-structure switch, the JJ (Jerry Cantrell) mod, an adjustable Thump control and the Pull Tight function. Worth knowing that the S switch didn't become standard on BE-100s until around 2016, so this amp had it before it was cool.

Quick tour of what all that actually does. The JJ mod piles on extra gain, compression and saturation. The S switch lets you jump between completely different gain structures. Thump controls how much weight and punch sits in the low end, and Pull Tight tightens the bass up when you want it fast and controlled instead of loose. Stack that on top of the original FAT, C45 and SAT switches and you end up with something far more flexible than a standard early BE-100.

This is one of those amps you sell once and think about for years afterwards. Unfortunately I've been living in a small apartment with neighbours on all sides for a while now, and a 100-watt Friedman does not care about your living situation. It deserves better than sitting in a corner being politely ignored.

I picked it up literally today (on the day of the ad creation) from the amp tech. I always have valuable amps properly checked before selling them, because "it worked fine when I played it" isn't good enough for something in this price range. Everything has been inspected, all pots cleaned, and a few solder joints refreshed preventively so it stays reliable. Nothing crackles, nothing cuts out. Every channel, control, switch, connection and function does exactly what it's supposed to.

One thing to mention so nobody panics: this configuration runs four preamp valves and four power valves, and there's a visible empty valve socket inside. That's intentional and were built that way It's supposed to be empty. Please don't "helpfully" stick a valve in there.

Cosmetically there's one flaw worth being honest about. The original plastic rear control plate has a few cracks in the far-right corner. It has zero effect on how the amp works, and it lives on the back panel where you'll basically never look at it.

I did order a brand new original rear plate straight from Dave Friedman, and it's included in the sale. However it turned out the custom Thump control on this amp sits a couple of millimetres off from where the standard plate expects it, so the new plate won't drop straight on without slightly opening up one of the holes. I chose to leave the original in place rather than start modifying things, but the new plate comes with the amp if the next owner wants to take that on.

If you're already looking at BE-100s, you know the reputation. They sit right at the top of the modern high-gain valve amp world, and this one gives you noticeably more tonal range than the standard version does.
