- Discontinued Status: Moog permanently ceased production of all 500 series modules in early 2017.
The Moog 500 Series Analog Delay is a premium, digitally controlled analog delay module designed for the 500 series rack format. While it is now discontinued, it remains highly sought after for combining authentic bucket-brigade (BBD) warmth with modern DAW integration.
Technical Specifications
- Delay Engine: Utilizes four New Old Stock (NOS) Panasonic low-noise BBD chips to deliver up to 800ms of 100% analog delay.
- Dual Time Modes: A front-panel switch toggles between 0.5x (35ms–400ms) for brighter, broader frequency response and 1.0x (70ms–800ms) for darker, longer echoes.
- Drive & Gain: Features +30dB of input drive and output gain, allowing you to push the module into warm, natural saturation or heavy overdrive.
- Digital Control: Includes a front-panel 5-pin MIDI DIN and a dedicated VST/AU/RTAS plug-in editor for total automation and recall within a DAW.
- "Under the Hood" FeaturesMany of the module's most powerful features are accessible only via the software editor or MIDI:
- 6-Waveshape LFO: Unlocks modulation for creating tape delay, chorus, and extreme vibrato effects.
- Delay Multiplier: Allows for "illegal" delay times up to 4x the front-panel settings.
- Tap Tempo/CV Routing: The front-panel 1/4" jack can be reassigned to various parameters or fed an audio click track to act as a tap tempo source.
