For sale is an exceptionally rare early Custom by Cougar Mystic Blues amplifier known as “Rosetta.”

The basic specifications of this amp were confirmed directly with Tommy Cougar, the builder. According to Tommy, only around 25 Mystic Blues amps were made between 1994 and 2004, and this particular example is described as the only Mystic Blues ever built with a Mahogany cabinet.

Rosetta features 2x NOS GE 7581A, 4x12AX7, a 12AT7 loop driver, a built-in Catulator buffered loop, and Skyliner EQ. Tommy also noted that this very amp was set up with a cleaner-than-normal, sparklier power amp, giving it a little more output and a stronger clean foundation than usual.

In character, Rosetta leans toward a bigger, clearer, more authoritative clean sound. This is not just about rarity — it is about feel. There is more headroom, more openness, more note separation, and a more hi-fi kind of clean response before the overdrive starts to bloom.

Tommy noted that Rosetta is not an SSS-style amp, but rather a Mystic Blues with a sparklier, cleaner-style power amp, similar to a few others he built. He also mentioned that this kind of setup was usually very good for SRV-style blues using the clean channel only with a Tube Screamer-style overdrive pedal.

The result is a very unusual balance: boutique D-style richness, but with extra clean authority, clarity, and punch.

This amp is wired for 120V operation.
