A fully playable antique guitar from the 1950s!
Josef Bohumil Herclík who's label we can find inside this lovely guitar was born in 1903 and died in 1987. Being a son of a very famous violin maker František Herclík (1866-1948) he learned the craft from an early age and later studied in Schönbach, Bohemia. He serves as an apprentice in Otakar Špidlen workshop from 1921 to 1923. He was known for using reclaimed wood from old buildings, and applying a red-brown oil varnish of his own formula.
The guitar is composed of maple body and neck with ebony fretboard. There are unoriginal mother-of-pearl markers on the freatboard. The tuning machines were replaced in the past, the current ones come from a later era of Bohemian guitar making. They work flawlessly on each string. The bridge is well original as well as the binding.
The original finish has been seemingly altered with a black stain a long time ago, currently offering a lot of patina and natural wear.
The guitar is very well playable, absolutely player ready. There is a slight natural relieve at the neck, the frets are in very good condition. It has been checked by an experienced luthier.
It has been strung with 11/56 bronze D'addario strings.
