ANOTHER RARE GUITAR FOR SALE !

THIS IS THE 2011 « FROM ONE BROTHER TO ANOTHER » LIMITED EDITION !

IT’S A GIBSON CUSTOM SHOP LES PAUL/SG DICKEY BETTS AGED AND SIGNED SIGNATURE !

ONLY 75 WORLDWIDE WERE AGED BY TOM MURPHY !

Well well well… as Greg Koch would say, do you know what Dickey Betts means in Latin ? With the Allman Brothers he just set the southern Blues/Rock level several steps higher !

His licks, good taste and sense of music made of him one of the greatest US guitar heroes.

The Dickey Betts Signature SG is a faithful Custom Shop recreation of the 1961/62 guitar gifted to Duane Allman, the Allman Brothers frontman, by Dickey Betts.

Years ago, I was fortunate enough to own the Artist Proof #8 of this batch (#4 being currently owned and played each night by the great Derek Trucks). I sadly had to sell it, but believe me when I say it was, from far, one of the best SG’s I’ve ever owned ! Those who know me do know I’ve owned litterally hundreds of vintage SG’s (also named Les Paul between 1961 and the beginning of 1963, before Gibson had to change the name to « SG », as for Solid Guitar).

Well this one belongs to the cream of these 100’s. I even could say it’s in the top 5 of the LP/SG’s that passed through my hands. Sound and playability are on TOP !

So, either if you’re a fan, a player or a collector, this guitar is a must have. Ok it’s pricey, but remember it’s a Limited Edition (only 75 pieces worldwide that were instantly sold-out eleven years ago). We’re also talking about a Tom Murphy Aged guitar. And last but not least, it was numbered and signed by Dickey Betts himself !

It comes with everything : all the paperwork (including the unfilled Gibson Gold Warranty card), the COA and the OHSC, with Dickey Betts signature on it. The OHSC is in excellent shape and all latches  work fine. All the docs are obviously « matching number » with the guitar.

Its serial number is right in the middle of the batch, between 30 and 40. I erased it on my pics, in order to avoid to see them on other websites without permission.

I guess I'm the second owner of this guitar, which was originally purchased in Japan. You ALL know that Japan has the highest quality standards on Gibson guitars !

Other specs : nut width is 1.687 inch, scale length is 24.75’’, body and neck are made of mahogany, dark rosewood fretboard with beautiful veins in it.

From Gibson website :

One of the most storied guitars in rock and roll history, the 1961/62 Gibson SG Standard given to Duane Allman by Dickey Betts during their playing days together, is an instrument of near-mythic proportions. Betts gifted Allman an SG so he didn’t have to wait while Duane re-tuned. Instead Allman could switch between the 1961/62 Gibson SG Standard and one of his Les Pauls. This guitar has long been feted as an iconic road warrior, and a classic tone machine. Now Gibson Custom has recreated this living slice of rock history in extremely limited numbers as the Dickey Betts “From One Brother to Another” SG. Produced in extremely limited numbers, with 75 examples hand-aged by Gibson Custom and signed by Betts, and another 250 featuring Gibson Custom's VOS (Vintage Original Spec) finish process and appointments, this model is an exacting reproduction of a stand-out SG from a golden age of guitar production. It offers the sublime tone and playing feel that these guitars are known for, with the looks of a hard-working legend.

SG Standards of the early ’60s carried some of the finest Gibson humbucking pickups ever made, units in transition between the “Patent Applied For” and “Patent Number” eras. To capture this superlative tone, Gibson Custom loads the Dickey Betts “From One Brother To Another” SG with a pair of Custom Buckers with aged nickel covers, wound and constructed to precise PAF specs, with rare Alnico III magnets and slightly mismatched and unpotted coils, two of the secrets to the articulate and slightly edgy tone for which great PAF and Patent No. pickups are famous. The guitar carries a genuine Nylon 6/6 nut, with slots cut on Gibson’s PLEK for optimum precision, which are matched by nylon saddles in the ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge. To mirror a popular modification of the time, as performed on the original guitar, this SG carries a stopbar tailpiece in place of the Lyre vibrola, an upgrade undertaken to improve sustain and stability, while a set of enclosed metal-button nickel tuners represent another common modification. All in all, this exclusive guitar presents a miraculous means of getting a realistic slice of Allman Brothers tone and history into your hands—but numbers are extremely limited, so check out the Dickey Betts “From One Brother to Another” SG at your authorized Gibson dealer today.
