Up for sale, a 1961 Fender Super in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a slip cover and original footswitch. This Brown Panel Pre-CBS tube amp features a thoroughly serviced and very original circuit, a pair of Oxford 10K5 speakers, and a full suite of JJ tubes.

An incredibly touch-sensitive and dynamic-sounding amp with surprising headroom, the Super has the 6G4 circuit and boasts hi-fi clarity and sparkling, robust clean tones. Turning the amp up past 5 on the volume dial yields thick, chewy overdrive, and the EQ controls have an incredibly wide sweep. Of course this is the most compact Brown Panel-era amp to feature the "Harmonic Vibrato" circuit as well. A true pitch shifting vibrato (not the tremolo found on most Fender amps), the Harmonic Vibrato sound has a thick, Leslie-esque throb and warble, with a three-dimensional quality and depth that is perfectly suited to the speaker complement and cabinet size. Whether you want a slow, undulating swampy sound or faster, pulsating vibrato, this Super delivers the goods.

The circuit is largely original, just given a clean bill of health by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar. Transformers include the original Schumacher-made power transformer and choke (both dating to '61), and the output transformer is a modern, properly-spec'd Hammond. The preamp features a bevy of original molded blue Ajax capacitors, central to the sweet, musical sound of these amps, with only a couple modern, high-quality tubular replacements. All of the original pots are intact, and the circuit has a few modern metal film resistors to ensure an optimal noise floor. All of the electrolytic caps have also been upgraded to modern components, and a modern three-prong power cable has been installed. The tubes consist of all JJ-branded valves.

The amp is loaded with an era-correct pair of gold frame Oxford 10K5 speakers, both of which have been professionally reconed. The gold frames have date stamps from 1962. The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet, with a “KL” stamp that translates to December, 1961.

The original rough brown tolex is intact, paired with a modern Baltic birch baffle and wheat grillcloth. The stock corners, sphinx glides (feet), and flat "Fender" logo on the amp's face are intact, and the faceplate is quite clean with a full complement of brown barrel knobs. The molded dogbone handle is a modern replacement.

The amp is complete with a vintage-style canvas slip cover and the original footswitch for engaging the vibrato.
