Rare vintage 1980s Japanese-made vibrato system designed as an innovative alternative to traditional Floyd Rose and Kahler tremolos — without requiring major guitar modification or body routing.

The Answer Shift 2001, later marketed as the Washburn WonderBar, was created for players who wanted expressive divebombs, vibrato effects, and fine-tuning stability while preserving the original body of their guitar. Unlike many locking tremolo systems of the era, the WonderBar mounts directly to the top of the guitar with minimal installation work and no spring cavity routing.

Originally introduced in 1984, the Shift 2001 used a unique cam-driven vibrato design with adjustable pitch-drop characteristics per string. It was even marketed with quasi-transposing capabilities similar in concept to the Steinberger TransTrem. Later adopted by Washburn on several models including the Force Series, the WonderBar became a cult-favorite piece of vintage hardware among adventurous players and collectors.

Constructed from a substantial brass and steel assembly, the unit delivers smooth action, impressive tuning stability, and unmistakable ‘80s shred-era engineering.
