Up for sale is a rare, high-performance piece of Gibson history: a 1989 Gibson U-2 (often called the Mach II) in an iconic Ebony finish.Built in the USA during the height of the 1980s shred era, the U-2 was Gibson’s premium, high-end answer to SuperStrats from Jackson and Kramer. Unlike its bolt-on competitors, this monster features a premium Gibson set-neck joint, a massive 25.5" scale length, and a lightning-fast 24-fret ebony fretboard. This guitar comes complete with its original Gibson hardshell case, featuring the legendary hot pink plush interior. The Ultimate Shred ModificationThe only deviation from original stock specifications is that the ebony fretboard has been professionally scalloped. If you love the effortless bending, vibrato, and light-touch speed of an Yngwie Malmsteen or Ritchie Blackmore setup—but want it with the resonance of a Gibson set-neck and a premium ebony board—this guitar is an absolute dream to play. The scallop work is clean, feels incredibly smooth, and elevates the high-velocity nature of this instrument.Condition
- Overall: Good / Player's Condition. It has been loved and played over the last 35+ years but remains in solid, functional shape. Many marks here and there please check photos.
- Body & Finish: The Ebony finish shows normal cosmetic wear under direct light, including minor surface swirling, small dings, and light play wear. No structural cracks or deep neck-joint gouges.
- Neck & Frets: The neck is straight, the truss rod functions smoothly, and the scalloped ebony fretboard feels incredible. The 24 frets have plenty of life left with no buzzing or dead spots.
- Hardware & Electronics: The original Schaller-made German Floyd Rose tremolo system is fully functional and holds tuning beautifully. All the complex electronics—including the 3 individual pickup toggles and the standalone "lead bypass" blower switch—work perfectly.
