Mosrite Celebrity III 1960s Sunburst

The Mosrite Celebrity is a classic semi-hollow and hollowbody electric guitar series produced by Mosrite of Bakersfield, California.

Introduced in 1965 under founder Semie Moseley, it departed from the brand's solid-body "Ventures" models to offer a traditional thin-line, double-cutaway design. It remains highly sought after by collectors of vintage surf, jazz, and rockabilly gear.

Body & Tone: Built primarily with laminated maple tops, backs, and sides, providing a bright, resonant tone with a distinct acoustic response.

The "Speed Neck": Known for an incredibly slim, narrow, and fast-playing neck profile.

Early 1960s versions featured tiny, ultra-low "speed frets" and a signature zero fret for consistent action.

Pickups: Outfitted with Mosrite’s proprietary high-output single-coil pickups.

They produce a tone described as a cross between a P90 and a hot Jazzmaster pickup—loud, jangly, and punchy.

The Three Main Tiers (1965–1969)

Initial production runs split the guitar into three distinct models, heavily differentiated by their hardware and trim:Celebrity I: The premium tier, usually featuring full body and neck binding, upgraded aesthetics, and an original Moseley vibrato system.

Celebrity II: The mid-tier variant featuring a hollow maple body, a slightly modified binding configuration, and dual pickups.

Celebrity III: The most common, streamlined edition. It was traditionally built without neck binding and used a simple metal trapeze-style tailpiece rather than a vibrato unit.

Production Eras & RaritiesBakersfield Era (1965–1969): The original run. These are considered the most authentic and collectible. Models from late 1966 onwards are identifiable by embossed "M" logos on the control knobs.
