The “Spur Wound” mod by MSM Workshop for a Tube Screamer is a fairly extensive modification that makes the pedal more versatile and modern. It includes upgraded components, sometimes a different op-amp, and the addition of switches (bass boost, clipping) that significantly alter the character of the drive. The result is more gain, stronger low-end presence, and a more open, dynamic sound, ranging from clean boost to heavier drive and even approaching fuzz. In return, it moves away from the classic mid-hump, compressed character of the original Tube Screamer, becoming a broader and more flexible version.
