For sale is an iconic and incredibly soulful 1965 Fender Jazz Bass in Dakota Red with a matching headstock, complete with its original hard-shell case. This instrument comes from my personal collection and stands out as one of the best-sounding and feeling vintage Jazz Basses I’ve ever owned. Its tone is full, warm, and balanced—consistently outperforming others I’ve compared it against.

While I’ve cherished this bass for years, I’ve been playing 5-strings more frequently, and it’s time for someone else to enjoy this 4-string classic.

Condition & History:

This bass has had a refinish at some point in its life—not done under my ownership, but clearly performed a long time ago with care. It shows authentic vintage wear, and you likely wouldn’t even realize it had been refinished unless told. The back has wear, scratches, and dings typical of a well-loved vintage instrument. Additionally, there is a repaired crack on the headstock, which has remained stable and solid for the entire 5 years I’ve owned it.

Modifications & Upgrades:

While much of the instrument remains original, it has undergone a few well-executed modifications that significantly enhance playability:

  • Replaced nut
  • Refretted — frets are in excellent condition with no buzzing or dead spots
  • Badass bridge installed
  • Tuners replaced
  • Pots, capacitor, and input jack replaced

The pickups are original, and they sound absolutely phenomenal. The neck feels fantastic, with beautifully worn-in playwear that makes it incredibly comfortable to play. It has been professionally set up and is ready to go right out of the case.
