The feel and sound are truly worthy of Murphy Labs.
The latest 2025 Cardinal Red Firebird has arrived!
When you think of Firebirds, you might think of blues players like Johnny Winter, Gaitemouth Brown, and Eric Clapton.
When you plug it into an amp, the mini-humbucker pickups produce a pleasantly grainy mid-high range, giving it a bluesy tone.
However, what's particularly noteworthy is its responsiveness. The high frequencies, rich in overtones, produce an exquisite tone that can be used for more than just blues.
Especially when lightly crunching it, the tone is pure rock ‘n’ roll. It's neither a single-coil nor a humbucker—it's that uniquely loose, dirty tone only a mini-humbucker can deliver, and it's fantastic!
In terms of playability, the slightly angled neck makes the Firebird's first fret, which often feels distant, feel closer.
The Maestro Vib-Roller's arm action is smooth, faithfully recreating the feel of long-term use.
As it is a lightly aged model, there is weather checking throughout the finish, and buckle wear and dents have been carefully added.
The finish is Cardinal Red, a color born from a car designer and befitting a Firebird.
The slightly subdued, tasteful red gives it the look of a classic car.
The exquisite tone and attention to detail from the player's perspective are typical of Murphy Labs.
This instrument allows you to experience the rock sound you once heard on records as if you were traveling back in time. Whether you've played a Firebird before or are a first-time player, we invite you to experience its exquisite sound for yourself.
From the manufacturer's website
Rock ‘n’ roll history began when Gibson hired renowned automotive designer Ray Dietrich to create a radical new solid-body guitar.
With its offset shape, through-neck construction, and unique mini humbucker pickups that produce a hot sound, the '63 Firebird V quickly became a model that would go down in history. The Gibson Custom Shop has reproduced not only its distinctive design and construction, but also its play feel, to the same degree of accuracy as a vintage model.
The combination of a lightly aged finish by Murphy Lab's skilled artisans and lightly aged hardware recreates a moderately played vintage guitar, reproducing the unique look and feel of an old guitar made during Gibson's golden era.
