Fender Electric Mandolin 1961 - Sunburst

A rare and beautifully preserved example from Fender’s early electric era, this 1961 Fender Electric Mandolin (often called the “Mandocaster”) is an outstanding instrument in both condition and tone.

This example is all original throughout, with the sole exception of a professional refret that makes it play effortlessly. The original Sunburst finish remains vibrant and glossy, showing only light, natural wear. The pickguard, hardware, and electronics are all factory-original and in excellent working order.

Plugged in, this little mandolin delivers a surprisingly big sound—clear, chimey, and articulate, with the sweet, bell-like sustain that has made these short-scale Fenders a favorite among session players and collectors alike. Whether played clean or with a touch of drive, it cuts through a mix with musical precision and vintage charm.

The neck feels comfortable and lively, and thanks to the refret, it plays cleanly across the entire fingerboard with perfect intonation.
