Martin 1994 D-45 — after roughly 30 years, a fully opened-up voice that offers an answer to the dilemma between a costly, delicate old vintage example and a new guitar whose tone has yet to awaken.
Born from Gene Autry's 1933 custom order and loved by legends such as CSN&Y and Eric Clapton, the D-45 is built only by Martin's top craftsmen from select top-grade tonewoods, with lavish abalone inlay around every edge of the body.
Some 30 years of aging have matured the spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. The D-45's signature bell-like ring has completely shed its new-guitar stiffness; even a light strum fills the room with rich, shimmering overtones. Without the excessive fragility of pre-1960s models, it is sturdy enough for demanding live and recording work.
1990s Martins are being rapidly reappraised as neo-vintage for their wood quality and matured sound, and prices are rising worldwide. Good, fully opened-up player-grade D-45s from this era rarely come to market.
[SPEC]
TOP: Spruce
BACK/SIDES: Indian Rosewood
FINGERBOARD/BRIDGE: Ebony
NECK: Mahogany
NUT WIDTH: 43mm
SCALE: 646mm
CASE: Original Hard Shell Case
[Repairs / Replaced Parts / Cosmetic Condition]
Scratches and pick wear from strumming are present, but no strap pin has been added at the neck heel, and the guitar appears to have been carefully played. Pickguard has been replaced. The case bottom has a crack with a sunken bottom stud. The case lid's retaining strap is stretched, so the lid opens a full 180 degrees.
[Playing Condition]
Action at the 12th fret: 2.5mm low E side, 2.0mm high E side. Saddle protrusion approximately 1.5-2.0mm. No choking or buzzing; playing condition is good.
