Video: Hands-On with the New Standalone Ableton Move

Earlier this week, Ableton unveiled the brand's newest fully standalone instrument: the Ableton Move. This little devices is extremely compact and portable, with a built-in battery that promises players up to four hours of continuous on-the-go music-making on a single charge.

The Move also features built-in speakers and a mic for playback and recording, though it of course also has a USB-A input for connecting MIDI devices, a USB-C input for charging and computer connection, and stereo audio I/O for connecting headphones, a mixer, or powered speakers.

The Move features 32 polyphonic aftertouch pads and a 16-step sequencer and is built around four flexible MIDI tracks—which can be a drum kit, sampler, or instrument of your choosing. And it core library of over 1500 sounds and instrument presets provides players with nearly endless sonic choices.

The Move integrates seamlessly with Ableton Live, and is a great tool for users of the software who want a tactile, lowered barrier of entry to making hands-on music and starting ideas that can then be finished in Live.
