August has been an exciting month in the effects world so far, with new gear announcements already dropping in anticipation of the holiday season. Just last week, Electro-Harmonix followed up its unveiling of the BASS9 Polyphonic Bass Machine earlier this month with another announcement for a pedal called the MOD 11 Modulator. This morning, TC Electronic got in on the action, announcing the new Hall of Fame 2 X4 Reverb on Instagram.
While the name of this new pedal is going to sound familiar to TC Electronic fans, its form factor and functionality have been seriously upgraded from its namesake predecessor. The original Hall of Fame Reverb and Hall of Fame 2 are certainly fully featured pedals themselves, with 10 studio-grade reverb types and TC's TonePrint tech, but this new Hall of Fame 2 dials everything up to 11. It features 16 studio-grade reverb types, two preset banks, and six TonePrint preset spots.
But perhaps the most stark difference about this iteration of this Hall of Fame is its four footswitches, which essentially turn it into a multi-effect unit specifically for reverb. Instead of having to bend down to make adjustments to reverb type, the new Hall of Fame 2 allows players to set four different types of reverb and switch between them with a tap of their foot—and, when you do switch between, the pedal blends them naturally for a smoother sonic transition.
But that's not all these footswitches can do. Each footswitch can also double as a mini expression control for up to three parameters. TC calls this "MASH," and when the MASH switch is engaged, the pedal will sense how hard you're pressing on the footswitch and react accordingly.
Serious tone tweakers can easily use the TonePrint app to set MASH to control almost any parameters that they like for ultimate customizability. Be sure to check out the video demo from TC above, and check back soon to find your own on Reverb.
