Guild recently unveiled its 2018 lineup of brand new guitars, and a certain oddball electric caught our eye. The new Guild S-50 Jetstar reissue marks the first time we've seen a fresh model in the Jetstar line since the late 1960s.
As far as design goes, this 2018 reissue is sticking pretty close to the premier Jetstar release, with a few notable changes. Familiar is the solidbody mahogany construction with a set neck, though the scale length has been stretched to 25.5 inches from the original's slightly shorter version.
And though later '60s models switched to a T-bird-style headstock, the reissue is taking after the original's asymmetrical shape with in-line tuning machines and Guild's pyramid pearloid logo.
An early development photo released last year pictured three models with slightly different appointments, including a single-pickup model (like the original vintage model) and one with a Hagström tremolo. But those options look to have been scrapped from the final release, with one Jetstar model outfitted with two LB-1 Little Buckers. The finish options include Vintage White or Black with a tortoiseshell pickguard or Sea Foam Green with a cream pickguard for $840 new.
Also included in Guild's 2018 lineup are a Starfire Bass II and a Starfire II ST guitar, as well as two new acoustics: a flamed mahogany version of the D-240E and the jumbo-bodied F-55.
