Doepfer's 8 New Slim Line Series Modules to Debut at Superbooth | Superbooth 2019

When Doepfer released its A-100 Analog Modular System and its first 10 modules in the mid-'90s, the popularity of the 3U-tall and multiples-of-2HP-wide rack led to the standardization of the Eurorack format.

In the intervening years, Doepfer has created well over 100 A-100 series modules. Ahead of this year's Superbooth synth show in Berlin, the company has announced eight more in what it calls its Slim Line Series—all of which focus on packing a wealth of features into small modules.

The A-111-6 Miniature Synthesizer Voice, at 10HP, is the largest of the bunch, but it includes a triangle core VCO, 24 db low-pass VCF, VCA, and an envelope with selectable AR/ADSR/AD modes. Estimated price is €180.

The A-118-2 is a noise and random voltage unit that "gives you the ability to mix the relative amounts of Red and Blue noise (low/high frequency component)," according to Doepfer. The continuous random voltage can be used as a source for either the Sample & Hold or Track & Hold units, which you can select via a switch. Estimated price is €80.

The A-121-3 12dB Multimode Filter is nearly identical to the company's previous released A-121-2 module, but through minor adjustments to the controls and sockets, it now fits within 4HP instead of 8HP. Estimated price is €100.

The A-130-2 contains two VCAs, each with "a manual gain control ... and a control voltage input with attenuator" and, because all inputs and outputs are DC-coupled, the A-130-2 can process audio and control voltages. Estimated price is €80.

The A-138n and A-138i are both four-channel mixers. The larger of the two, the A-138i Interrupting Mixer, adds individual mute switches to each of the four inputs and adds additional single and dual mix outputs. Estimated price for the A-138n is €50, while that of the larger A-138i is €80.

Doepfer calls the A-145-4 a "bread-and-butter device" that contains four LFOs, and can be thought of as a slimmed-down version of the previously released A-143-3. Estimated price is €80.

Finally, the A-182-2 "is a simple passive module that contains four changeover switches. ... Each unit of the module can be used to switch between two signals to interrupt/connect a signal," Doepfer writes. Estimated price is €60.
