Vintage Digitech GSP-21 Pro rack guitar/studio preamp FX unit. 1990s. All original. Vai/Lynch/Batten/Lukather presets.

The Digitech GSP-21 Pro is a classic 1990s multi-effects processer that was genuinely radical when it was first released. Loads of features and sounds. Professional presets written by 90s rock royalty: Steve Vai, George Lynch, Jennifer Batten, Vito Bratta, Bruce Kulick, Michael Angelo, Neal Schon and Steve Lukather.

On first glance it looks a little simple compared to today’s modelling gear, but what this unit does, it does really, really well. 21 different effects, the ability to very precisely shape them, and then combine up to 10 at a time. And as opposed to modern processors with endless ear-candy sounds with endless, needless (?) variables, the GSP-21 Pro gives you some really good sounds almost all of which you would actually use at a gig or in a mix.

Like lots of rack gear from the time, these things have a loyal cult following. Often the owners are working musicians who have had them since new and who are still using them in their daily rigs.

Great for live sound; great in the studio. Really nice for direct recording. Lots of analogue drive and gain sounds, together with some very usable studio tools such as noise-gating, enhancing and speaker simulation. Nice parametric EQ section. On top of which, there is all the sweet digital stuff, multiple reverbs, delays, modulations, comb filtering, limiters, stereo imaging, and on and on…..

Loads of practical features like guitar inputs on both the front and the back, headphone output, its own effects loop, the usual midi connections, and a nice straightforward intuitive interface (other manufacturers take note, please).

192 presets slots, the first 64 user writable, 65-192 are factory presets written by some serious musicians big in the 1990s: Steve Vai, George Lynch, Jennifer Batten, Vito Bratta, Bruce Kulick, Michael Angelo, Neal Schon and Steve Lukather. People who actually knew what they were doing.

And it all still sounds very nice all these years later and has a warmth and analogue-type  responsive feel to it all which is different to the more sterile sounds that modern kit often produces. I’ve been recently using this into my Boogie and it just sounds wonderful.

This unit has been used in the studio and has some surface signs of wear on the metal case, but no damage. The front fascia is in generally good condition. All knobs and buttons present and correct, in good order and doing what they should. Fully working with no issues, electrical, sonic or otherwise. Leaving the user presets on there for you to use and save or to over-write and factory reset as you wish.

A really nice bit of useable vintage kit which has some history behind and is still capable of making beautiful music.

As always, any questions etc, drop me as note.
