Gibson Melody Maker, Sunburst, Gig Bag - Used
The Melody Maker has always been Gibson's exercise in stripping an electric guitar down to its essentials. Introduced in 1959 as an affordable companion to the Les Paul Junior, the format relies on a single pickup, two controls, and a wraparound bridge to do all the work — and when it is right, it has a light, punchy directness that more complicated guitars sometimes lose. The 2010 single-cutaway reissue carries that same mahogany body and neck construction forward, and this example has that classic light and punchy character at its core.
We want to be straightforward about a few things on this one. The neck has some twist to it, with more relief on the bass side than the treble — it is playing okay at spec currently, but a buyer who is particular about neck straightness should know this going in and is welcome to inspect closely or ask further questions before purchasing. The pickup is not original to the guitar; it appears to be a blade-style single-coil with an unmarked magnet, and the pickguard has been cut to accommodate it. The back of the guitar shows significant scratches and wear throughout. We are disclosing all of this clearly because that is how we do things — check the photos closely for the full picture before you buy.
None of this means the guitar does not work or does not have a place. It is a playable instrument with real Melody Maker character, priced and described to reflect its actual condition. Comes with the Gibson gig bag.
