The legendary Rockman X-100 Headphone Amp from 1982, developed by Tom Scholz, the guitarist of Boston, the iconic sound of the early 80s. The part was sensational at the time - a stereo headphone preamp with 4 basic sounds and switchable stereo chorus and short delay - all of course analog. Prominent users at the time were ZZ Top (Eliminator and Afterburner), Joe Satriani (Surfing with the Alien) and Def Leppard, who recorded the complete Hysteria album with the Rockman. The old rockers among you will perhaps remember the Rockman ads with the "The 10000 $ Guitarsound that fits in your hands".
With the MX100, MXR has packed the classic Tom Scholz X-100 into a compact floor pedal and has given the preamp some contemporary updates. As with the vintage version, the legendary 4 basic sounds are available: Clean 1, Clean 2 - the classic "egg cutter" directly into the lectern sounds of the 80s with fierce compressor insert, Edge a dynamic crunch sound that reacts to stop and input signal and finally distortion - a singing 80's lead sound with long sustain. If you activate the analog stereochorus, the sun rises!! With an optional MXR TRS Split + Tap footswitch, the 4 basic sounds can be directly selected or the TRS stereo output split into right/left mono - very clever for live use.
